Portland has a number of excellent wine bars that are worth visiting as well as some equally noteworthy happy hours. Northwest Portland offers Vino Paradiso, which is located on 10th avenue in the Pearl District. Vino Paradiso offers half off bottles of wine during their 4-6pm happy hour. The often and easily overlooked M Bar located on NW 21st avenue offers $3 glasses of wine during their 6-8pm happy hour. These two locations are within walking distance of each other (0.7 of a mile) and can provide you with a seamless happy hour any night of the week. Even better, these bars coincidently have the same exact address number (417), just follow Glisan between 10th and 21st avenues. Northeast Portland offers the most recent addition, Lupa, which is located on Mississippi avenue. Lupa is by far the smallest of the wine bars featured here, as it seats only a dozen or so guests. In addition to an excellent wine selection, Lupa offers a small selection of appetizers, including artisanal cheeses and cured meats. During the 3-6pm happy hour at Lupa, enjoy $1 off all house wine pours on Monday through Saturday, and all day Sunday. Pour Wine Bar & Bistro is located on NE Broadway and offers $3 select wines and $5 off any bottle during their daily happy hour between 4:30 and 6:30pm. Southwest Portland offers Thirst Wine Bar & Bistro, which is located just within the downtown beltway and along the Willamette waterfront. The outdoor patio at Thirst provides a relaxing view while you enjoy discounted wine specials during their 3-6pm weekday happy hour. Oregon's largest wine shop, Vinopolis, is located on SW Washington and offers free wine tastings 5-8pm on Thursday and Friday as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Southeast Portland offers Vino Vixens, which is located on SE Powell. On Saturday and Sunday enjoy wine tastings at Vino Vixens for $10 and $8, respectively. Mix magazine did an interesting article on Vino Vixens in this months issue. Check out UrbanDrinks.com for more details.
